A massive blaze on Saturday, 11 January destroyed the installations of the plastics manufacturing company, Duralon in Herrera Industrial Zone. Firefighters from Santo Domingo and San Cristobal were successfully able to contain the fire so that it did not affect neighboring industries. Fire Service Colonel Jose Antonio Segura Feliz said that the blast spread to Marcos Metalicos before they were able to extinguish it. He said the investigation into the causes is now underway, as reported in El Caribe. Duralon has 235 employees, according to company spokesman Eduardo Frankenberg. No injuries were reported.
