To the beat of merengue and the many legendary songs always memorable in his voice, family and friends said goodbye to Francis Santana yesterday, Sunday 12 January. Santana, who died on Saturday at the age of 84, was best known for his renditions of bolero and merengue songs. Yohanna Almanzar and Nestor Sanchez sung “Amor eterno,” “Evocacion” accompanied by Miguel Leclerc on the piano. His voice singing “Por amor”, “En la oscuridad” and “Arenas del desierto” was also heard at the funeral along with several lively merengue tunes. His daughter Katiuska told the mourners: “We want to ask everyone to remember him as he always was: A happy person, an honest person, an excellent husband and an excellent artist.”
Francis Santana was a regular at the Sunday concerts at the Ruinas de San Francisco with the Bonye group.
