The city government of the National District has announced the purchase of four new garbage compacter trucks for service in the Colonial City. Mayor Roberto Salcedo said that the four trucks cost US$300,000 and can carry between two and three-and-a-half tons of refuse. Their use will be restricted to certain times so as not to disturb the commercial, social and cultural ambiance of the oldest city in the New World. These trucks are the first of eight that will be used to keep the area clean, and are designed to be able to handle the narrow streets of the historic area.
