The Direct Cost of the Construction of Housing (ICDV) index shows that the cost of building in the DR was up 5.14% in 2013. In December, the cost of building a house increased 0.24%, says ICDV. The index is published monthly by the National Statistics Office (ONE) with the support of the Builders and Housing Promoters Association (Acoprovi). In metropolitan Santo Domingo, power generation and the rising cost of wood are reported to be affecting construction. There were also increases in the cost of cement blocks, labor, electricity and carpentry, as reported in Diario Libre.
