Electricity sector seeking loan

Ruben Jimenez Bichara, executive vice president of the Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE), has revealed that they are negotiating with a group of banks to obtain a loan of between US$300 and $400 million to pay part of the debt they owe to the electricity generators.

The Dominican Electrical Industries Association (ADIE) representing the generating companies is pressing for payment of the debt, now around US$844.2 million saying that if it is not paid they are concerned about the potential operating and financial problems for the companies.
