The Central Bank reported that inflation in January, compared to December 2013 was 0.23%. The Central Bank says that inflation over the past 12 months was 2.82%. He says this compares to 4.76% for the same period last year, and is the lowest for the first month of the year in the past five years.
The Central Bank says that the effect of the increase of the ITBIS from 8 to 11% on many basic products has had less of an effect than what was expected. Many large stores had announced they would postpone the increase of the tax on sales to February.
