United announces Newark-Santiago flight

United Airlines has announced plans to add a Newark-Santiago service starting this summer. The flight regulatory clearance is still pending authority approval. The airline says it would use Boeing 737-900 jets and that the Santiago flights would be timed to provide “round-trip connectivity with Washington and Chicago.”

Travelers choosing to fly into Santiago are headed for the second largest city in the Dominican Republic or the tourist destinations of Puerto Plata, La Vega, Jarabacoa and Constanza, all less than 45 minutes away.

United already flies from Newark to Santo Domingo, Punta Cana and Puerto Plata. It also offers a seasonal service to Punta Cana from its hubs at Chicago O’Hare and Washington Dulles.
