Exporting capers from Montecristi

Montecristi caper farmers want to sell their product on the local market where some US$20 million a year is spent on importing capers, a key ingredient in several Dominican dishes. The Dominican-grown capers have been exported to Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil. The governmental Specialized Fund for Agricultural Development (FEDA) recently granted a soft loan to the Zafarraya Agricultural Cooperative Union.
