The Ministry of Interior and Police has announced the start of the 12-month National Foreigner Legalization Plan. The plan is open to people who have entered the country irregularly, or who entered legally but are now in an irregular status situation for having overstayed the term for which they were authorized to enter, as well as for people who have violated the original terms of entry. The plan is being carried out by the National Migration Council that unites the Immigration Agency, the Administrative Ministry of the Presidency, Central Electoral Board (JCE) and the Ministry of the Presidency efforts to provide legal document to residents in the Dominican Republic.
The government is considering the length of time the person has been living in the country, their links to Dominican society, work and socioeconomic conditions and the legalization of people as an individual and by family.
To participate in the program, applicants need to present identification that is valid in their country of origin.
The government says they seek to regularize foreigners of 98 nationalities who were born in the country and do not have legal status.
The plan starts in the provincial governor headquarters in Azua, Bani, Barahona, San Cristobal, San Juan de la Maguana, San Pedro de Macoris, La Romana, Hato Mayor, La Altagracia, Monte Plata, Santiago and San Francisco de Macoris.
