JW Marriot plans September opening

With promotional rates of US$209 during weekends and US$239 on weekdays, the JW Marriott Hotel in Santo Domingo with its entrance through the Blue Mall is confirmed for a September opening. Blue Mall promotes itself as the city’s luxury mall and houses Cartier, Louis Vuitton and other upscale stores at its central Gustavo Mejia Ricart Avenue location. The JW Marriott will target the most demanding hotel guests needing hotel accommodations in Santo Domingo.

Marketing manager Marina Colunga says that rates will go up to US$300 per night two months after the opening, in time for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

The hotel has 150 rooms with great views of the city on the 12th to the 20th floors. It looks over the garden area of Julieta neighborhood, an oasis in Santo Domingo, increasingly a high-rise concrete jungle. It is also right on Av. Gustavo Mejia Ricart, an entertainment strip with many restaurants, bars, and shops.

The hotel will have six suites and two executive floors including one with a presidential and vice presidential suites for VIPs.

Other areas include the swimming pool and an international food restaurant.

An open bar with panoramic vistas and the Bar Vertigo – a platform built over Av. Winston Churchill with a glass floor will give the sensation of floating in space. The executives say they want it to become a meeting place for Dominican society.

The hotel has a large events room with capacity for 300 people and add-on rooms seven for a total capacity for meetings and events and gatherings of 600 people.

The hotel is now hiring for all the areas. The general manager for the opening is Nigel Cook.
