Marking the start of summer, the mountain town of Jarabacoa announces the celebration of the Fifth Flower Festival from this Thursday, 18 June to Sunday, 22 June 2014. This year, the festival starts on Corpus Christi Day, creating a long weekend for those who can skip working on Friday.
The festival is the perfect time for visiting Jarabacoa, especially for residents of the Dominican Republic who can take back many of the big items – such as plants and arts and crafts – that are on sale for the festival that takes place off the La Confluencia intersection at the entrance to the town.
The president of the foundation that organizes the festival, Eunice Marmolejos said that this year cultural programs would again contribute to strengthening the town’s identity and showcasing its people’s talents. She said that the festival has become an annual tradition of beauty, creativity, harmony and colors. There will be singing, grassroots music, a children’s parade, poetry recitals, arts and crafts, and gastronomic events. There will also be plant and flower exhibitions, produce markets, and shows. The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Jarabacoa city government, Banco Popular and Centro Cuesta Nacional.
