DR to host Third World Cocoa Conference

The Third World Cocoa Conference will be held in the Dominican Republic in March 2016, announced Federico Cuello, the Dominican ambassador to the United Kingdom. More than 1,000 delegates from 30 countries voted unanimously for hosting the event in Punta Cana. The board and executive director Jean-Marc Anga of the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO) has approved the celebration of the leading chocolate industry event in the Dominican Republic. In Amsterdam, where the decision was taken at the World Cocoa Conference this year, Jose Antonio Martinez Rojas, representing the Dominican Republic, received the traditional cacao bud, symbol of the next site of the congress. Expert speakers from governments, chocolate companies and farms come together to attend the four-day event that tackles the most important issues in cocoa production to date; fair trade for farmers, eradicating child labor and empowering cocoa producers.
