New Off-Broadway play tells about Dominican ways

Stage Door: Barcelo con hielo written by Marco Antonio Rodriguez is an Off-Broadway play in Spanish staged by Repertorio Espanol in New York. The play, which combines public history and private pain, is getting good reviews in the US press. Barcelo con hielo is a family drama in which two sons, the responsible Sergio, a young painter, (Ivan Camilo) and irresponsible Dennis (Javier Fano), cope with their cancer-stricken father. Set in Washington Heights, the main character is haunted by visions of life under former President Joaquin Balaguer.

With new technology permitting for back-of-the-seat Met Opera-style subtitles for the non-Spanish speaker, the play can reach out to larger audiences.
