IDB approves U$100 million for improved health care

The Inter-American Development Bank has approved a $100 million dollar loan for the health sector in the Dominican Republic. According to Listin Diario, the loan is to increase “spending efficiency in the sector and improve the quality of the services provided to the country’s poorest people.” The loan is part of a line of credit for investment projects that could go as high as US$300 million. The program objective is to improve the administrative capacity of the services by expanding the financial model based on the results of Public Health “0” region (Santo Domingo, Monte Plata and the National District). The program will benefit some 900,000 people, which, according to the IDB, represents 29% of the poor in the Caribbean nation. Priority will be given to primary care and preventive care.
