National Council of Free Zones (CNZFE) president Luisa Fernandez Duran says that industrial duty free zone exports in 2013 reached a record of US$5,029 million, which is 1.8% more than in 2012, when they totalled US$4,940 million. The CNZFE presented a statistical report for 2013 that also highlights that apparel made up 25.5% of total exports, with exports of US$1,280.5 million. Medical and pharmaceutical products accounted for 24.5% of the total, or US$1,230.4 million, and electrical products were 12.9%, for US$650.8 million in exports. Tobacco products made up 11.6% of the total, or US$584.1 million; footwear was 8.4% for US$420.9 million, and jewelry represented 7.9% of the total, or US$357.8 million. There are 55 parks and around 602 free zone manufacturing plants nationwide.
