The MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index has listed Punta Cana as the fourth destination city in number of visitors. MasterCard reports that travel to Punta Cana has increased consistently over the past few years. It received 1.7 million visitors in 2010, and this went up to 1.8 million in 2011, 2.0 million in 2012 and 2.1 million in 2013. The forecast for 2014 is 2.2 million.
Punta Cana is also ranked at the top of the list when it comes to international visitor spending at US$2.4 billion, followed by Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires. Visitors are estimated to spend US$2.3 million in 2013 and US$2.4 billion in 2014.
