Dominicans say crime is the main problem affecting their lives, replacing electricity problems, health, education, water supply and administrative corruption as the number one concern.
64% of Dominicans said that crime in general, especially muggings, robbery and contract killings, was the main problem that needed to be tackled. Second and third are economics: the rising cost of living and the lack of job opportunities.
62% of those polled said the economy was not performing well for Dominicans, but this is down from 67% in May 2014.
For the poll, 1,200 eligible voters were interviewed between 29 August and 2 September 2014. The margin of error is 2.8%.
