Haitians cannot get their papers

Dozens of Haitians have remained outside the new offices of the Program of Identification and Documentation of Haitian Immigrants (PIDIH) that was supposed to open in the Herrera Industrial Zone in Santo Domingo yesterday, Monday 15 September 2014.

They said that the PIDIH had given several different dates when it would be open but so far the building still isn’t finished.

Haitian ambassador Fritz Cineas had promised it would be open yesterday, but all of the people who had appointments were left standing outside and no one appeared to know when it would open.

One man, Pastor Bidol said that he had arrived with a group of Haitians from Nagua who were supposed to get their documents today.

Other Haitians complained that they had paid RD$1,000 pesos to get their documents but they still hadn’t received them.

Several weeks ago the office in Gazcue was closed down after local residents complained about the numbers of people in the area.
