Listen to the beats of Martinique this Saturday, 11 October 2014 when the Caribbean jazz ensemble BwaKore of Martinique takes the stage at the Parque Mirador in Sosua, Puerto Plata at 7:30pm. The event is presented by the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival’s Foundation (Fedujazz), Sosua City Council, the French Embassy in the Dominican Republic, the Alliance Francaise and the Martinique Region.
The BwaKore band members are Claude Cesaire, Alwin Lowenski, Jose Marie-Rose, Max Telephe and Jose Zebina.
BwaKore is known for maintaining their cultural island identity as they blend the improvisational spirit of jazz and textural trimmings of world music, with indigenous mazurka, Creole waltz and salsa beats. Their music is recognized for being “exceptional, progressive music rooted in French/World music culture”.
In addition to the concert, BwaKore will lead music workshops at the Casa de Arte in Sosua for children in the Strings program, in conjunction with Fedujazz and Sosua City Council. The general public is welcome to attend.
Parque Mirador Sosua is in front of Playa Alicia, next to the Waterfront Restaurant. Seating is available, on a first come-first served basis.

The presentation of BwaKore is a warm-up for the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival, which will celebrate its 18th year (6-9 Nov 2014) with four nights of concerts in the north coast towns of Puerto Plata, Sosua and Cabarete.
