Butterflies at the Botanical Gardens

The Santo Domingo Botanical Gardens, a must for all visitors to the city, have announced the opening of a new Butterfly Garden. The project is run by the Butterfly Garden Foundation, directed by Francina Lama de Barletta. Its construction was supervised by architect Henry Pimentel, working with support from the Bonao Cooperative. Botanical Gardens director Ricardo Garcia says that this 7,000 square meter-area will be used for conservation and environmental education. The installations include a lab for butterfly breeding and study. The new Butterfly Garden will also have an arts and crafts store selling publications on butterflies. Visitors can take a guided tour of the area or stroll at their leisure watching the multicolored insects.
