Conep urges bringing order to transport in DR

The National Business Council (CONEP) is repeating its call for the government to stop postponing its decision to establish true order in the transport system, based on free enterprise. Conep says that the competent authorities need to take decisions to resolve the difficult situation that affects cargo transporting in the country. In a press release from the executive committee, Conep said that the repeated postponements are affecting competitiveness and considerably increasing the cost of products for domestic and export markets. There is no free market or free access to cargo in the local market. Transport businesses managers uphold unionized status to avoid state regulation, receive government subsidies and evade taxes without providing efficient service, stated the Conep.
