The Dominican Republic will preside The Mesoamerica Project from 1 January 2015 to 30 June 2015. The Mesoamerica Project is an initiative originally supported by former President Vicente Fox of Mexico in 2001. The DR has been a member since 29 June 2009. It represents a high-level political space where the cooperation, development and integration efforts of 10 countries (Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and Dominican Republic) are defined by facilitating the management and implementation of projects aimed at improving the quality of life of the region’s inhabitants.
In the Dominican Republic, projects are coordinated with the ministries of Environment, Public Health, Industry & Commerce, Energy & Mines, Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel), Civil Defense, Customs and Center for Export & Investment (CEI-RD).
The executive director of the Mesoamerica Project Leyla Zelaya recently visited Santo Domingo where she met with the Dominican project coordinators at the Ministry of Foreign Relations.
The Mesoamerica Project receives support from donors including the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Latin American Development Bank (CAF). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesoamerica_Project
