Today, Wednesday 3 December 2014, National Police chief Major General Manuel Castro Castillo will launch the “Peaceful Christmas 2014” campaign where more than last year’s figure of 10,295 police officers will be patrolling the streets.
Although the initiative is aimed at preventing robberies, wounding and killings, security specialist Daniel Pou says that just as in previous initiatives it actually does not deliver any real results and what is needed is to step up intelligence work.
He added that public awareness also needed to be raised about the use of firearms, violence, reckless conduct and displaying of jewelry.
