According to a report from the Inter-American Development Bank, the 7% increase in exports from the Dominican Republic in 2014 is above the average for Latin America. The study showed the DR posted the third fastest growth in exports of 18 countries analyzed by the IDB. Gold exports, which were up 35% this year, made the difference. As reported, overall exports of Central America and the Caribbean on average were up 3% in 2014 for US$43.6 billion. Exports were up 4% to the region’s main source market, the United States. The report states that Nicaragua posted the highest export growth rate with 10%, followed by Guatemala and Dominican Republic 7%, Honduras 5%, Costa Rica 1%, El Salvador (-5%) and Panama (-1%).
