ID cards expiry date confirmed

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has decided that the deadline for the expiration of the old identity card or cedula should be 10 January 2015. From that date on the new cedula will be required. The issuing of the new cedula began in April 2014.

JCE communications director Felix Reyna said that the same offices that issue the new cedula will continue to provide the service once the deadline has expired.

Reyna reported that 4,694,330 people have asked to change to the new card, 64% of cardholders. So far 4,471,194 new cedulas have been issued. This leaves 2,554,215 people who still have to request the new identity card.
