The National Drug Control Department has reported the confiscation of 499 packages of cocaine or heroin, an AK-47 rifle, and ammunition at sea. They were being transported by a Colombian and Dominican ring that allegedly imported the drugs to the coasts of Cumayasa, in La Romana. In the operation on Saturday, 20 December 2014, 11 Dominicans and one Colombian were arrested, four on board the fishing boat Miriam 2, which according to reports, was captained by a known La Romana drug trafficker Gregorio Vilorio Perez (Dario Gasolina) who the authorities said had been repatriated by the US judiciary. The arrests took place three nautical miles out to sea.
After the seizure of the 499 packages, the DNCD searched Perez’s residence and arrested a Police agent at his service who was in possession of RD$400,000, believed to belong to the arrested drug trafficker.
Two Super Tucano jets and an Air Force helicopter were used in the operation.
The DNCD says that a speedboat from Colombia delivered the drugs to the Miriam 2 with three Dominicans and one Colombian on board who were arrested when they headed toward the shore after being intercepted by the law enforcement authorities.
