The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reports a 50% reduction in traffic accidents over the 2014-2015 Christmas-New Year holiday. According to the COE, there were 47 deaths in traffic accidents, of which 32 involved motorcyclists, 68% of the cases. The victims were between the ages of 14 and 59.
Over the holidays, there were 1,592 injuries in 516 traffic accidents in which 238 motorcyclists were involved, causing the highest number of deaths.
COE director General Juan Manuel Mendez said that from 2pm on 30 December of 2014 to 6am on Thursday 1 January, 193 traffic accidents were reported, in which 115 motorcyclists were involved.
