Klaus Biesenbach, curator of NY MoMA visits

Lyle O Reitzel art gallery owner recently hosted a visit by Klaus Biesenbach, the current Director of MoMA PS1 in Queens, New York City and Chief Curator at Large at The Museum of Modern Art of New York City. He is also the Founding Director of Kunst-Werke (KW) Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin.

Local arts promoter Lyle Reitzel said that Biensenbach made a six-hour stopover in Santo Domingo on his way to Cuba where he was planning to attend a performance by artist Tania Bruguera on 30 December 2014, as reported in Diario Libre.

During his stopover in Santo Domingo he visited the Lyle Reitzel Art Gallery and learned about the work of Cuban artist Jose Bedia, Haitian-born artist Duval Carrie, and Dominican artists Jose Garcia Cordero, Gerard Ellis and Hulda Guzman who are represented by the art gallery.

Beinsenbach also toured the Colonial City, where he visited the Alcazar and Columbus Park, and later the Museum of Modern Art.

Reitzel said that Beisenbach expressed interest in returning to spend more time in the country, adding that it was the first time that such a prominent curator has visited, which could open doors to Dominican contemporary art.
