The demolition of the Luis Eduardo Aybar public hospital has resulted in the loss of hundreds of medical records. The hospital, which started operating in 1946, used a manual system for storing records and thousands of those records have now been destroyed.
Before the demolition began, a few patients, especially those who were pregnant or who had been recently admitted, were handed their records.
The demolition began on 23 December 2014 and the new hospital is expected to open in May 2016 at a cost of around RD$7 billion.
