Police chief says crime dropped in 2014

Chief of Police Major General Manuel Castro Castillo says that as of the end of 2014, the crime rate had declined to 16.1, down from 20.3 registered in 2013.

Castro Castillo says this is the lowest level in the past 12 years, also when compared to regional countries. He attributed the decline to the new initiatives launched by the Police. In 2014, patrols were increased and it was also the year when the 911 emergency service started, along with other actions. Castro said that in 2015 programs that were started in 2014 will be strengthened, and Police reform and modernization processes would continue, as reported in El Nuevo Diario.
