President Danilo Medina called baseball player Pedro Martinez yesterday, Tuesday 6 January 2015 at around 3pm to express how proud he and the country on Martinez’s election into the Baseball Hall of Fame. President Medina said this was the best gift ever on Three Kings Day.
He also highlighted his admiration for Martinez’s personal qualities like his extraordinary generosity and solidarity. He went on to say how much Martinez deserved the honor and that every citizen in the country shared his joy.
Pedro Martinez and Juan Marichal are the only Dominicans to have received the honor of being elevated to the status of immortality in the world of baseball in the United States.
Martinez is expected back in Santo Domingo on Thursday, 8 January 2015. The Ministry of Tourism has announced plans for a big welcome and a party with 10 musical bands in his hometown community of Manoguayabo, on the outskirts of Santo Domingo. “Pedro Martinez is a great national symbol,” said Minister of Tourism Francisco Javier Garcia.
