Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano has been cleared by his team to play winter ballgames for the Estrellas Orientales from San Pedro de Macoris. He is likely to play games from Tuesday to Thursday, 13-15 January 2015 as the Estrellas are battling the Gigantes del Cibao from San Francisco de Macoris, in a series that is being dubbed “the battle of the Macorises.”
In the first season of a US$240 million, 10-year contract, Cano batted .314 with 14 homers and 82 RBIs.
The round robin series ends on Saturday, 17 January 2015, by when the playoffs teams will have been decided.
