Government continues to reap more tax revenue

Tax collections in 2014 were worth 10% more than in 2013, according to a preliminary report issued by the Tax Agency (DGII). Revenues, nevertheless, were 3% less than budgeted.

From January to December 2014, the DGII collected RD$313 billion, or around 28 billion more than in 2013. The revenues fell short by RD$10.7 billion of the total budgeted for the tax agency, which was RD$324.22 billion.

Of the total, 75% were collected by the DGII itself, 20% by Customs and 5% by the National Treasury.

54% of revenue came from indirect taxes on consumers, and 46% from taxes on income and property.
