President Danilo Medina opened the National Foreign Diplomacy Forum in the company of the country’s leading diplomats at the Ministry of Foreign Relations yesterday, Wednesday 14 January 2015. The conclusions of the forum will be used to define the country’s new foreign policy, which aims to be more proactive and resourceful.
Medina said the time has come for the Ministry of Foreign Relations to play a renewed and essential role in promoting the country’s productive sectors and the development agenda. He said that the DR diplomatic missions would work closely with the Center for Export and Investment (CEI-RD). They will be entrusted with finding new market segments for Dominican products. He also said the Ministry of Foreign Relations will be strengthened.
President Danilo Medina said that his government is adamant that foreign relations should be an effective tool for protecting rights and promoting the welfare of the Dominican people. “The time has come to reactivate our diplomacy and improve and promote the country’s image before the international community,” said the President during the opening.
On the first day of the forum, Mexican diplomat Andres Rozental gave a talk on the challenges of modern diplomacy. The Forum continues through Friday, 16 January 2015.
