Dican officers caught at major drug trafficking operation

At a press conference held yesterday, Thursday 15 January 2015, the extended Attorney General commission investigating claims of unreported drugs handled by the Police Central Anti-Narcotics Directorate (Dican) said that the director of the entity, Lieutenant Colonel Feliz Humberto Paulino Lopez had transported the stolen drugs. The operation for the illegal distribution of confiscated drugs would have been authorized by the department director, Carlos Fernandez Valerio. As reported, the Dican director of operations himself had transported the drugs. In complicity with prosecutors, the law enforcement agents reported no drugs had been found. The deal went sour when US Drug Enforcement Administration agents reconfirmed there had been drugs at the site, after tailing the drug operation from South America.

The Attorney General Office said they were able to establish that the drugs seized by the law enforcement agents for sale through drug trafficking channels reaped US$10 million.

El Dia and Diario Libre carry the detailed report received from the Attorney General.
