Supreme Court judge Alejandro Moscoso Segarra has set the date of Thursday 22 January 2015 for issuing his opinion on the request to open an investigation into the case against senator Felix Bautista who is accused of corruption when he headed the Supervisory Office of Public Works under the former President Leonel Fernandez government and of asset laundering. Bautista is the highest profile case of “rags-to-riches” under the Fernandez government.
The defense lawyers called for closing the case on the grounds of the senator’s privileged jurisdiction and alleged failure to follow the correct procedures for the hearing by the Supreme Court. Judge Moscoso said that the hearing of the accusation does not affect the senator’s privileges.
