In the 29 months since Danilo Medina took office, the government has financed around RD$33.8 billion worth of agricultural projects, coming close to achieving the four-year target of RD$40 million.
In 2014 alone, according to Banco Agricola administrator Carlos Seguros Foster, speaking at a press conference at the Presidential Palace yesterday, Monday 19 Janaury 2015, the state agricultural bank lent RD$16.17 billion to small and medium-scale producers, considerably more than the RD$1.49 billion lent in 2013.
Seguros Foster said that the loans have benefitted 30,958 farmers and small companies throughout the country. Defaults on loans, 14.2% in 2013, dropped to 10.7% in 2014, according to the administrator of the state agricultural bank.
