The Central Electoral Board (JCE) reports that 7,065,817 people are eligible to vote in the Dominican Republic as of 13 January 2015.
This figure represents an increase of 562,849 eligible voters since the 2012 presidential election, as reported in Diario Libre. Of the total, 495,755 citizens will be entitled to vote for the first time.
JCE president Roberto Rosario says that the number of eligible voters will increase as more people obtain the new ID document. He says the change of the ID and voting card is generating a clean voting list in time for the 2016 presidential, congressional and municipal election in May 2016.
