Juan Pablo Duarte Anniversary

In a speech yesterday, Monday 26 January 2015, the 202nd anniversary of the birth of Juan Pablo Duarte, the founding father of the Dominican nation, President Danilo Medina said that the task of building a country did not end with a flag and a constitution. He highlighted that Juan Pablo Duarte led by example with his generosity and dedication. He called on Dominicans to celebrate the day with joy and continue to build the country.

Celebratory events were held nationwide, with the singing of the National Anthem in front of the Town Hall in San Francisco de Macoris followed by Mass at the Santa Ana Cathedral attended by President Medina and First Lady Candida Montilla, who then watched a military parade.

In Santo Domingo, mass was celebrated by Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez at the first Cathedral of the Americas and a military parade in the Colonial City.

In Santiago, there was a mass at the Metropolitan Cathedral, led by Archbishop Ramon Benito de la Rosa y Carpio.
