The Ministry of Public Health, Environment and the Dominican Municipal League have announced they will be taking over waste disposal services in San Cristobal, a province where the city government has failed to provide a satisfactory service. A state of emergency has been declared in the province due to the poor quality of waste management, as reported in Diario Libre.
Environment Minister Bautista Rojas Gomez says that the local authorities are receiving an environmental recovery plan that includes measures for new garbage dump, a sanitary campaign and environmental education campaign. The Ministry of Public Works will build the facility that is expected to result in satisfactory waste management in 12 to 18 months. The Municipal League will be providing eight garbage trucks to reduce the emergency.
