Attorney General: Police should be completely restructured

After the latest scandal involving agents from the Central Anti-Narcotics Agency (Dican), Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito has repeated his suggestion that the National Police should be completely restructured.

The Attorney General maintains that the National Police should be converted into two parts: one uniformed and the other investigative, separated by lines of command.

According to El Nuevo Diario, Dominguez Brito said that this issue is still being discussed in the police reform workgroup, and accepted that other sectors had other criteria.

Finally, the Attorney General called for new police structures with reformed recruitment and training systems. From his point of view there should be a separate agency to investigate internal corruption, a new external evaluation system and changes in the way officers are paid.
