In his column in Diario Libre today, Thursday 29 January 2015, economic analyst Alejandro Fernandez writes that the government is keeping the savings from the lower cost of oil for itself. “Now, in the first seven months after the price of oil peaked at US$105 in June 2014, the price of premium gasoline has only dropped 29% (from RD$271 to RD$192), which is half of the 57% reduction on the international markets,” he writes. He also highlights that the Ministry of Hacienda has passed on the savings to consumers gradually.
