President Medina opens improved El Seibo-Miches road

President Danilo Medina inaugurated the 40.5 km repaved and improved El Seibo-Miches road yesterday, Monday 2 February 2015. The new road is described as a boost to economic and social development in the east of the country. An estimated 100,000 people live in the towns of El Seibo, La Nabajagua, Pedro Sanchez, El Ocho, Los Corazones and Miches and the road is expected to attract eco-tourists and investors to the area.

Public Works Minister Gonzalo Castillo said that the road would reduce driving time from El Seibo to Miches from 70 minutes to 35 minutes at a speed of 40-70 km per hour. Kenia Mejia de Bisono, deputy for El Seibo, said it would reduce traffic accidents on the winding road, as well as cutting down on fuel consumption.

The opening ceremony was attended by municipal, provincial and regional authorities, regional politicians, representatives of farmers’ associations, community organizations, and businesspeople.
