The Ministry of Hacienda and the French Agency for Development (AFD) have agreed on US$210 million in financing for land use organization and urban transport projects in Santo Domingo East. According to Listin Diario, Hacienda Minister Simon Lizardo Mezquita, French Ambassador Blandine Kreiss and AFD director Gilles Genre-Grandpierre signed the agreement in Santo Domingo yesterday, Wednesday 4 February 2015.
According to a press release issued by the Hacienda Ministry, Lizardo Mezquita expressed his appreciation for the AFD’s support for social protection programs. He also thanked the agency for the confidence it has shown in the Dominican government by supporting this project.
The program includes financing for Line 2 of the Santo Domingo Metro, the relocation of the La Barquita slum barrio as well as the cleanup of the old barrio site. It will also help fund the new “Acuabus” river transport system on the Ozama River, which will be linked to the Metro system.
