Journalists say it is not true that the Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET) and the Santo Domingo city government (ADN) have cleaned up the infamous west-east Duarte con Paris intersection.
El Nacional says that the same chaotic situation is affecting other areas where squatters and informal vendors have taken over, including under the overpasses at Av. 27 de Febrero from Leopoldo Navarro to Yolanda Guzman Street, and under the overpasses at Av. John F. Kennedy at its intersections with Maximo Gomez and Abraham Lincoln avenues and Km. 9 of Duarte Highway.
AND says that the Ministry of Public Works is responsible for the overpasses and should look after them. Conversely, the Ministry of Public Works told El Nacional newspaper that the city government was responsible for managing urban areas and preserving public spaces.
