Police chief Major General Manuel Castro Castillo says that Pedro Brand town councilor Erinsson de los Santos Solis (Ney) heads a network of contract killers, and allegedly used a people-smuggling organization to arrange the departure to Venezuela of fugitive Police sergeant Felix de Jesus Lora (El Pelotero).
In a press conference held yesterday, Thursday 5 February 2015 the police chief together with National District prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso said that the city councilor was preparing the departure of another sergeant, Amaury Cabrera Martinez, as reported in Listin Diario. Both Lora and Cabrera are suspects in the cases of the murdered drivers.
Reynoso said that they are investigating De los Santos and other public transport association directors for asset laundering on the grounds that they cannot justify their evident wealth. She added that the investigation was launched following a series of murders of public transport drivers over the past few months.
Castro Castillo said that the Pedro Brand city councilor heads an organized crime structure believed to be responsible for at least three of five deaths of public transport drivers in the past two months.
He said that bullets found at the murder scene of Fenatrano transport association drivers Overnis Guerrero and Angel Javier on 17 January 2015 coincide with those collected at a store in Santo Domingo West where another Fenatrano member, Vladimir Estarlin Martinez was killed.
Castro Castillo said the organized crime entity carried out contract killings, and violently dealt with conflicts between the transport associations over control of routes and passenger stops, property invasions and forcible debt collections. He ended by saying that investigations into other murders in several parts of the country are underway.
