Haitian fishermen are being singled out for having captured a humpback whale off the north coast of Haiti. The whale is a protected species in Dominican waters. A witness to the alleged attack said that a group of Haitian fishermen killed the whale in the Bay of Fort Liberte. Diario Libre reports that a report, including photos, appears on Puerto Rico’s Manatee Conservation Center Facebook page. The images show the Haitian fishermen trying to harpoon the whale.
