Dominicans want more action against drug trafficking

According to the Gallup-Hoy poll carried out in late January, the general perception in the country is that the government has performed well in the areas of education (89%), support for women (65.4%), road construction (58.6%), and initiatives for young people and sports (50%).

Only 48.6% spoke positively about efforts for the energy sector or improvements in transport (46%) and foreign policy (44%).

However, 68% of Dominicans criticized the government’s handling of the problems of drug trafficking and consumption, 67% were critical of migration controls and 60% were critical of crime management. 54% gave the struggle against administrative corruption a negative rating.

All at a time when overall, voters gave the Danilo Medina administration an 83% approval rate.
