Quirino says he is telling the truth

Former army Captain Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo, one of the country’s most notorious drug dealers, has confirmed that he donated more than RD$7 million to the Foundation for Global Democracy and Development (Funglode) run by former President Leonel Fernandez.

According to Paulino Castillo, in a phone call to the “Hilando fino” TV program, produced by journalist Salvador Holguin, Fernandez received the money on behalf of Funglode and for his presidential campaign from 2002 to 2004 despite being fully aware that it had come from the drug trade and was in fact “dirty” money.

Castillo said he was more than happy to take a lie detector test to prove he was telling the truth. He added that Funglode’s electricity generator was a gift from him to Fernandez and had cost almost US$200,000.

He also confirmed that the letter that he sent to Leonel Fernandez asking him to repay the money he lent him for his presidential campaign, around RD$200 million, was indeed genuine.
