Late yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 10 February 2015, President Danilo Medina signed a decree for the dismissal of Humberto Salazar as Executive Coordinator of the Heath Sector Reform (CERSS). Salazar, who will be replaced by Rafael Schiffino, is originally from the PRSC, but is better known as a strong supporter of former President Leonel Fernandez.
Schiffino’s previous post as Deputy Minister of Collective Health will now be taken over by Hector Quezada Ariza.
Salazar had been in the post since his appointment by Leonel Fernandez in 2008 and was kept on when Danilo Medina took over the presidency in 2012. The decision to dismiss him was made after Salazar accused Administrative Minister of the Presidency Jose Ramon Peralta of being behind an alleged smear campaign against former President Leonel Fernandez. Polls show the former President as the strongest candidate for the PLD and the most likely winner of the 2016 presidential election.
